The person in this position would specialize in working with private landowners to secure an adequate supply of timber for local Eastern Shore Forest Products mills. The need for this person is defined by, first, the continual need for timber that can be logged during wet times, and, second, by the fact that within 45 miles of Salisbury there are 145,000 acres of 21-60 year-old pine stands on private lands.

The position is “hands on” and requires an individual who likes and relates well to forest landowners and colleagues in the forestry community. Ideally, this person would be a graduate forester, a Maryland license requirement. However, a forest technician could do the work adequately if he or she has access to a licensed forester for project approvals.

Required training would include dendrology, silviculture, forest measurements, familiarity with various regulations and public forestry programs, logging, GIS, Microsoft Office competency, property surveys and wildlife management. Skills would include strong communications abilities, “people” skills, self-motivation and the capacity for hard work under occasionally challenging conditions.

The position calls for someone who can strike a balance between objectively advising and assisting forest landowners achieve their goals while clearly representing ESFP and seeking to acquire timber for the company’s operations. This is a position that will aggressively seek out timber from private lands. Success would be measured by timber acquired, with a tangible contribution toward the company’s need for over 200,000 tons of wood each year. Specifically, the person in this position would be responsible for:

Identify key landowners (i.e., larger ownerships, drier ground not currently represented by consulting foresters)

Initiate and maintain contact with key landowners to help assess their needs and goals and identify ways in which timber harvests might help achieve them
-
Establish strong working relationships with consulting foresters, state foresters, extension specialists and USDA “farm” agencies
-
Maintain a consistent communications effort directed toward private forest landowners and forestry professionals, including exploring ways for joint educational efforts with Maryland Forests Association
-
Work closely with support staff to maintain records of initial contacts with landowners, results and any needed follow-up actions
-
Assist, as needed with cruising, boundary marking and other fieldwork plus logging administration

Regular communications with ESFP managers to report progress and assure coordination with other functions of the company

Represent ESFP in local organizations that include forest landowners
Your job will entail many things such as, maintaining, disassembling, assembling, repairing
several machines, bearings, shafts, sprockets, welding, performing preventative maintenance,
etc. These can be small jobs all the way up to larger projects. The physical environment may
be inside or outside depending on the task at hand. We will rely on your skills and abilities to

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

Using many different hand tools, measuring tools, as well as equipment for cutting, welding and lifting to perform your job duties.

Trouble shoot and repair machinery

Reading drawings and manuals for assembling/disassembling machinery.

Make recommendations on repairs and replacement of worn out parts or equipment/machinery.

Using your knowledge for the best, safest, and most efficient way to repair machinery.

Assist other trades in keeping the plants and equipment in top operational order and at peak performance.

Work Safely and follow all safety guidelines per company safety as well as all OSHA requirements.

Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Move equipment/machinery as needed throughout the plants.

While not a requirement, electrical, electronic, and Hydraulic knowledge is a plus.
As a member of the maintenance team, you hold the responsibility of insuring that the plant is in a constant state of readiness to perform efficiently, effectively and safely while at all times protecting the asset and the people that work within it.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

Planning:

Work with other team members and management to develop maintenance strategies that ensure the long-term protection of the plant assets and also ensures that the plant will be an efficient and effective producer of quality products
-
Complete all work orders in a reasonable timeframe
-
Meet with supervisors and production managers daily to schedule preventative maintenance and discuss any ongoing issues that may need to be addressed
-
Work to develop a tracking system for parts, filters, etc. in and out
-
Practice Lean maintenance techniques and use the 5S program to develop a culture of lean within the maintenance organization and the greater plant as well.
-
Constantly look for ways and make suggestions to improve on current methods, practices and procedures.

Schedule and follow up with all appointments with outside repair companies.

Doing:

Maintenance personnel are responsible for working on all equipment within the facility. Preventive maintenance, lubrication and adjustment are the main responsibility and of the highest priority.

Ensure that the proper quantity and quality of parts and tools are on hand and properly organized for efficient retrieval at all times

Keep parts room and Tool room to 5s standards

Take responsibility for shop cleanliness

Create a shop and workspace that is worthy of pride

Maintain Fleet Maintenance documentation

Collect and report equipment hours

Document all maintenance performed in a system agreed to by management.
Observing:

You should keep a constant vigil on housekeeping and report any issues that may pose fire or other safety risks to supervisors or if appropriate deal with the issue on the spot.

Make sure that all safety and fire-fighting equipment is in the proper location and in enough quantity and quality to provide a safe work environment.

You must be vigilant about watching out for things that pose a threat to humans and company assets alike.
